Advancing Data Center Education Across Europe
Building a European Network for Data Center Education
The Colleges for European Data Center Education (CEDCE) is a partnership between educational institutions, businesses, and industry representatives from Finland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Portugal, and Ireland. The consortium was established to create a pan-European data center curriculum that supports high-quality vocational education and training. In September 2021, CEDCE successfully secured funding for this initiative, receiving 75 out of 100 points in the evaluation process. Since then, the partners have worked closely together through international meetings and collaboration to further develop the project.
Meeting the Growing Demand for Skilled Professionals
As digitalization accelerates across Europe and globally, the demand for data centers continues to grow. The global data center workforce is expected to increase from approximately 2 million full-time employees in 2019 to nearly 2.3 million by 2025. This development creates a strong need for qualified professionals in areas such as data center operations and facility engineering. CEDCE addresses this challenge by strengthening cooperation between education providers and industry, ensuring that training programs align with current and future workforce needs.
Supporting European Digital Development
CEDCE contributes to several key European policy initiatives, including the Data Act, Data Governance Act, Digital Markets Act, and the Digital Decade strategy. By fostering collaboration between educational institutions, industry partners, and the scientific community, the consortium helps strengthen Europe’s digital infrastructure and skills base. Its international network and strong industry involvement ensure that students gain access to relevant, high-quality education that reflects the standards and demands of a global data center industry.
